Province is very proud to have been awarded Gold Level LEED certification. Province is also the first full service restaurant in Chicago to have received this prestigious rating. We are also very excited to have received a three star rating from the Green Restaurant Association. This shows our ongoing daily commitment to operating a green restaurant.
Housed in The Chicago Transit Authority building, which was awarded Gold LEED-EB certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED-EB is the USGBC’s leading edge rating system for existing buildings that measures performance to maximize operational efficiency while minimizing costs and environmental impacts. The CTA building is the first to achieve the. LEED-Existing Building award in the state of Illinois.
Floor-to-ceiling windows, stretching 16-1/2-feet high and facing west and south, set the stage, with sunlight streaming through regenerated cotton sheers that hang from eight feet down and dappling the dark reclaimed wood shutters that cover the top 8-1/2 feet. A dark, sustainably-harvested cork floor runs throughout and subdued recessed can lighting illuminates the space throughout.
Upon entering, guests are greeted off to the left with a white granite bar area with a banquette and recycled chocolate-brown leather chairs. Inspired by Mexican architects Luis Barragan and Legorretta & Legorreta, the otherwise subdued, ivory-painted room is anchored by a hot pink wall that runs along the north wall and bathroom hallway. The pink is set off by recycled material on the chairs and banquets. The inspiration for these pops of color is a modern approach to the farmhouse aesthetic, with modern edges and clean lines.
The dining room is dramatically set off by a 16-foot-high sculpture of a petrified tree installed by Tony Polega of Bukiety inc. florists. Hanging above a dark wood credenza, the sculpture separates the dining room into two intimate spaces. Polega will also create the floral designs in the room.
Tabletops at Province are simple, with cork and recycled wood tops, simple white place settings and stemless glassware. The ambient music is an eclectic blend of many styles orchestrated by Chicago musician/composer Dave Hiltebrand.
The private dining room is separated from the main dining area by an 8-foot tall wall of custom, climate-controlled wine storage.
